
HYDERABAD, Feb 23: All Congress members in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly were today suspended for the day for disrupting proceedings during zero hour in protest against the government8217;s alleged move to dissolve the Warangal Municipal Corporation WMC.
Dr P V Ranga Rao Congress said the State Government issued a show-cause notice to the WMC on why the corporation should not be dissolved following an attack on the municipal commissioner by two corporators recently. Congress members rushed to the well of the House and staged a dharna8217; demanding withdrawal of the show-cause notice and disrupted proceedings for over an hour.
Acting on a motion moved by Legislative Affairs Minister P Ashok Gajapathy Raju, Speaker Y Ramakrishnudu suspended the Congress members for the day. When they refused to leave the House, the marshalls were called in to evict them.
The Opposition Congress, Communist Party of India, CPI Marxist, Bharatiya Janata Party and NTR-Telugu Desam Party condemned the government moveto dissolve the corporation.
State Municipal Administration Minister B Satyanarayana contended that the show-cause notice was not tantamount to taking action but was only to elicit information.
