NEW DELHI, November 4: Chief Minister Sushma Swaraj today accused the Congress of launching a smear campaign against her personally to tarnish her image before the elections.

At a press conference this afternoon, Swaraj said: 8220;The Congress could not find any fault with my work as Union minister or before. So now they are fabricating facts to tarnish my image.8221; Swaraj appealed to Congress president Sonia Gandhi to get her party 8220;not to indulge in a personal attack and to fight political battles on issues of governance and performance8221;.

Swaraj went on: 8220;It is a coincidence that both the BJP and the Congress have woman at the head of their respective campaigns. I appeal to Sonia not to allow the denigration of the image of an woman politician. It is detrimental to the political growth of the country,8221; she said. 8220;The fact is I have never met Romesh Sharma. I have never seen his face. And my husband Swaraj Kaushal was never his lawyer,8221; Swaraj said emphatically, reacting to allegations that have been made by a section of the media.

The CM saw a Congress hand behind the salt issue as well. 8220;It is a game being played by the Congress to create panic. There is enough supply of salt for the next three years,8221; she said.
