Stepping it up!
It8217;s working! The escalator at the Pune Railway Station, which leads to the main bridge connecting the various platforms, is in operation. Since its inauguration in July by Minister of State for Railways Ram Naik, the escalator hit the news again after an incident in September when a woman broke a glass bangle while on the escalator, pieces of which hindered the escalator8217;s operation.
Reacting to reports that the escalator was being misused by children to play on, Railway Public Relations Officer Y.K. Singh says, 8220;People are not always aware of how an escalator operates. Children and others, too, would use it without understanding its operation. The first two months after its inauguration, members of the Railway Protection Force were posted near the escalator and now ticket checkers have been posted to ensure its smooth operation and check that only those with a valid ticket use it8221;.
