Imprinted!
Ashok Rodricks, a young and enthusiastic art connoisseur, has organised a rare painting exhibition at the Rabindra Kala Kunj, Nehru Memorial Hall, Camp, from August 13 to 16. He has amassed a collection of reproduction prints of works of renowned artists, brought from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, which boasts of one of the best collections in the world. 8220;It8217;s next to impossible to buy originals, so we thought that getting the genuine prints would generate a lot of interest, since the art scene in India has become very vibrant,8221; says Rodricks.
Aided by specialised photography, which produces colour-matched prints from master slides, the prints have retained the touch of the real paintings or photographs. Rodricks8217; repertoire includes some prints of works by Impressionists like Van Gogh, Monet, Degas, Klimt and Matisse. Besides this, reproductions of Japanese screens, Tiffany-stained glass and women artists like Georgia O8217;Keefe and Jennifer Bartlett are also featured. The show offers a dekko at 22 framed exhibits, while the rest of the prints will be shown on request. Definitely worth a look!
In the name of Atre
It was hundred years ago that the brilliant litterateur, Acharya Atre, was born. And Puneris have not forgotten it. The Acharya Atre Smruti Pratishtan has organised an award-giving ceremony on August 13 to commemorate his birth centenary. Says organiser S Kulkarni, 8220;Though most people find the number 13 unlucky, Atre, who was born on August 13, and died on June 13, felt that it was extremely lucky.8221; Well, that is what it will turn out be for the 12 recipients of the awards, who come from different walks of life. Among those chosen are Shankarao Kharat for literature, N. Mahanur for poetry, Sai Paranjype for films and others. Proves that great men never die, their memories live on.
To the four
Like most birthdays, this one too was all about fun and having a good time. When 10 Downing Street turned four on August 11, it celebrated the day in style. The pub was all done up 8211; there were caps, face-masks, streamers, balloons all around. But only a chosen few could see it all as the celebrations were limited to the invitees. As manager Prahlad Rao said, this is one occasion when they would like to give something back to their regulars.
The guests were served the choicest of hot drinks and delicious snacks, all on the house. And since a birthday party without a cake would have been rather incomplete, there was a big and yummy one to tempt the palate. With music livening up the atmosphere, things became very informal as the evening progressed, and people gathered in little cliques, soaking in the feel of the party. Truly a birthday bash to remember.
