College high
You may just be out of school but that doesn8217;t mean you have to wait till June to get a feel of junior college. Because if you plan to take French as a subject, you could get a head start. The Deccan Education Society8217;s autonomous institute, RESOLVE, has begun an eight-week course in French language and culture for students who have appeared for their Std. X examinations.

Parents and students can attend an introductory meeting on April 10 at Fergusson College at 6.00 p.m. This will be held at the Wrangler Paranjpe Building and is open for English and Marathi-medium students.

A photographer8217;s niche
The discerning eye finds creative potential in the most ordinary-seeming objects. Take a niche in the wall, or devli, for instance. City-based photographer Sandesh Bhandare has chosen just this as the theme of his exhibition of photographs, which is currently on display at the National Centre of Performing Arts, Piramal Gallery, Mumbai.

8220;Over centuries, the devli, which was constructed to display Gods, light a lamp or store household items, has become an integral part of every Maharashtrian household,8221; says Bhandare, who wanted to capture this fast-vanishing architectural concept on film.

8220;I was inspired by the sheer variety of uses the different types of devlis had been put to. Gods, account books, gymnasium equipment, newspapers and electricity meters have all jostled for space in the devlis.8221; Bhandare is certainly carving a niche in his own way.
