Celebrating the 50th birthday of their teacher, Rishi Prabhakar, the Rishi Samskruti Vidya Kendra has taken the opportunity to celebrate the occasion at each of its Siddha Samadhi Yoga SSY centre all around the country. The Pune chapter too has a couple of events lined up, beginning with a day-long workshop on parenting at Damle Hall on December 6. Under the guidance of Guru Rishi Prabhakar and other doctors, an orientation programme on diabetes organised at the Udyan Prasad Mangal Karyalaya will be held. This is followed by the Maha Angaha Vrat Pooja on December 11.

Meena and Prakash Patwardhan the people behind the home delivered ready-to-cook vegetables are now planning to add a bulletin to their services that will among other things introduce a member each month. Says Meena 8220;We have many celebrities as members. And our members do not know each other. So our bulletin will introduce one member each month.8221; Besides this, the bulletin will give valuable information about vegetables, the new discoveries like broccoli, recipes, price trends and their reasons, health and nutrition. All this from a bhajiwali is not bad eh?

Getting in shape
Years ago illness was big business but now the focus has shifted to fitness and health. Satish Tembe, the urologist turned fitness guru will be organising a health workshop on December 6 at Hotel Poonam. This four hour workshop will cover the various aspects of good health, from diet, what to eat and when, to exercises that will increase your stamina, flexibility and so on and more importantly how to prevent obesity. Apart from this it will also focus on prevention of the by pass surgery and stress management.

Tuneful nostalgia
This looks like a good time for music buffs to go looking for that much sought after album. Rohit Enterprises on East Street is having a 15 day festival of audio and video cassettes and compact discs staring December 1. 8220;For this festival which is held every December we get albums of international singers which are not easily available at other times like the most requested songs of the 8217;40s, Polka hits, Sizzling 8217;70s, Kenny Rogers8217;old numbers, Dolly Parton8217;s Luminaries,8221; says proprietor, Rohit Jerajani. A 10 per cent discount is available on all English audio, video cassettes and CDs. There8217;s also a special kiddies section with Disney hits and those that relate a story. The festival is open between 9 a.m and 9 p.m.

Canvassing art
All you potential Picassos get out your paints. The Chitari Academy of fine arts will organise a spot painting competition for schoolchildren and art college at Sopanbaug Orchards next to Sub Area Officer8217;s Mess, Victoria Road December 13 between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. The schedule also includes a painting demonstration by prominent city based artists and landscape painters. The special attraction consists of landscape painting in oil colours by G S Thakur in celebration of his 79th birthday. The participants will be divided into four groups according to the class they are studying in, besides a separate category for college students. The entry fee for the event is Rs 10 for school students and Rs 20 for collegians. While papers will be distributed free, those wanting to take part will be required to bring their own painting material. The prize distribution will be held on the same day. Those wanting to take part can register their names at the Chitari academy of fine arts or the Gangadevi Memorial Kala Mandir.
