The Janata Party has called for setting up an extra class to accommodate over 80 children who have been denied admission to eighth standard at the L K Waghji Municipal Tamil High School. In a press release the party called upon the Deputy Director of Education to reconsider his decision and make arrangements for the education of these children.

Demonstration

The CPWD Junior Engineers Association plans to hold a demonstration and rally on July 28 in front of the office of ADG Western region at Churchgate protesting the Fifth Pay Commission Report. In a press release the association decried the proposal of comparatively inferior pay scales and the removal of existing promotional avenues.

Exhibition

RPG Enterprises is presenting an art and photography show on the theme 50 years of Freedom of Expression8217; to celebrate 50 years of India8217;s freedom. The photography exhibition will be held at Y B Chavan Art Gallery from August 15 while the art exhibition opens at Jahangir Art Gallery on August 16.

Puncham Bazaar

A child aid organisation, Puncham, is organising a Puncham Bazaar8217; on July 30 at Hotel Ambassador. The bazaar is meant to bring together lady entrepreneurs from all walks of life who will be allotted stalls to exhibit their wares at the hotel.

Governor8217;s plea

Maharashtra governor P C Alexander emphasised the need for developing non-conventional areas in agriculture like fisheries and poultry. Making his opening remarks at the meeting of the vice-chancellors of agricultural universities, Dr Alexander said that even though all universities are facing a severe resources crunch, the situation could be turned around using proper methods like retrenchment of surplus staff through golden handshakes and expansion of consultancy services.

Mars images

Near multimedia, a graphics, multimedia and internet training institute is offering a free screening of images from Mars through the Internet for students and professors at their centres at Andheri, Thane, Malad and Chakala till July 30. The viewers will be required to bring their I-cards for the session.

Seven injured

Seven persons, including four police personnel were injured in a road accident at Vashi early this morning. According to fire brigade sources, the accident occurred on Vashi bridge near the Thane creek at 5 am. The truck KA 19-4474 was heading towards Vashi when it rammed into a police van MH 12 O 8664 coming from the opposite direction. The injured were admitted to a nearby hospital and discharged after treatment, sources added.
