China on Friday said the country is 8220;basically ready8221; for the Beijing Olympics and was confident of 8220;doing a good job8221; during the Games and making it a 8220;high-level event8221;.

8220;The preparation work has been going on very well, and we are basically ready for the Games,8221; the ruling Communist Party of China8217;s CPC Central Committee Political Bureau meet, presided over by President and party General Secretary Hu Jintao, was told.

Ahead of the meeting, the Chinese President had himself inspected Olympic-related transport facilities, visiting the airport rail link and Beijing South Railway station and the new Terminal 3 of the Beijing Capital International Airport on Wednesday.

The meeting said the organizers had accomplished a great deal in preparing for the Olympics with firm support from Chinese at home and abroad and the International Olympic Committee and the international community and host cities, official Xinhua news agency said.

Efforts relating to city management, security, publicity, foreign affairs and training of athletes were being further intensified, the meeting was told.

8220;China is confident of doing a good job during the Olympics and making it a high-level event, so as to satisfy the international community, athletes of different countries and regions, and the Chinese people,8221; it said.

8220;Great efforts should be made for the preparations of the Games8217; opening and closing ceremonies,8221; the meeting said, while stressing on ensuring a safe Olympics through international cooperation.

The meeting also promised convenience to foreign journalists in covering the Games.
