SP, RJD stall House proceedings
Although the winter session of Parliament began on a stormy note with the Samajwadi Party-Rashtriya Janata Dal combine scuttling all proceedings in Lok Sabha, it was clear by the end of the day that there was no immediate threat to the Government. Apparently buoyed by the Congressís decision not to bring about an adjournment motion and its deliberate move of staying away from the shouting brigade in the House, an assertive Atal Behari Vajpayee later said that there was no question of his resigning.

Allies stand by BJP
Even though the BJP has suffered major reverses in the elections to the state assemblies, its allies are unlikely to desert the ruling alliance. There is a feeling among them that the poll results were not entirely unexpected. As the results for the four state assemblies started pouring in, BJP headquarters at 11, Ashoka Road was rife with speculation about the fate of the Vajpayee Govt.
