Pension for terrorism victims
MOGA:
Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has announced that the families of the 25 RSS workers who were gunned down by the terrorists in 1989 would get their family pension regularly through the banks. Badal made announcement yesterday at Shaheedi Samagam held here in memory of the terrorist victims. Badal was surprised to know that the victims8217; families were not getting the pension regularly.

Russian Minister calls on PM
SHIMLA:
Russian Nuclear Energy Minister Y. Admov yesterday called on Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee at Manali where he is holidaying. The chairman of India Atomic Energy Commission, R. Chidambaram, accompanied the Russian minister.

According to highly placed sources, Admov and Chidambram came in a special helicopter and were with the prime minister for about an hour. They are reported to have discussed the issue of setting up two thermal power houses of 1,000 megga watt each at Kudamkulam in Tamil Nadu.

Two boys drowned
PATIALA:
Rakesh Kumar 6, son of Punjab police head constable Kamal Kumar, and his cousin, Kiran Kaushal 13 drowned in the tubewell at the police lines here today.

CORRUPTION
PATIALA:
Kanwaljit Kaur who is serving with Bankfico here as a field officer was today caught red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 200 from Sukhwant Kaur of Begohra village for giving her a favour in a loan case. The raid was conducted by DSP Vigilance Narinder Pal Kaushal and a case has been registered against Kanwaljit Kaur.

BAN
LUDHAINA:
District Magistrate Arun Goel has further extended the prohibitory orders on plying of buses and public transport system, including tourist buses and taxis, between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. without escort in the district. The ban would remain in force till August 22. He has directed the bus and taxi operators to approach the authorities for appropriate security cover for plying of vehicles during the night hours.

FATEHGARH SAHIB:
The annual urs in the memory of Hazrat Mujedded Alif Sani here at Rouza Sharif will begin tomorrow. Rouza Sharif is considered as second Mecca by a section of Muslims. Every year, a large number of devotees visits the shrine from all over the country and abroad, especially, from Pakistan and Afganistan, to pay their obeisance to Hazart Mujedded Alif Sani.

MISHAP
GURUDASPUR:
Amritsar-based Military Engineering Services sub-divisional engineer Prem Bhanot and his wife Indira Rani were killed when the scooter they were riding collided with a truck near Suchetgarh village on Gurdaspur-Amritsar road this morning, police said. The couple were going to Amritsar when the mishap occurred. Indira Rani was working as a teacher in the government senior secondary school at Gurdaspur. The truck driver fled after abandoning the vehicle, which overturned after hitting a roadside tree.

A case had been registered
AMRITSAR:
The Central Excise Preventive Staff CEPS of Amritsar division seized a matador loaded with processed man-made-fabric which was being moved from the factory premises without valid documents and payment of duty. According to Suman Bala, assistant commissioner CEPS, oa naka was laid and the van was intercepted.It was found that the fabric measuring 20,020 mt, valued at Rs 4,29,446 and involving duty of Rs 85,889, was having different lot numbers.

RESULT
KHARAR:
The local Hendrson Jubilee School has recorded 100 per cent result in the recently announced matriculation results of the CBSE. In a release issued here today, Naresh Donald, principal, said that a total of 31 students of the school appeared in the matric exams conducted by the CBSE, of which, 17 scored first division, while 12 have registered distinction in various subjects. Udayan Dua has topped the school with 80.2 per cent marks.

AMRITSAR:
Shiromani Youth Akali Dal Kahlon flayed the killing of 25 members of a marriage party in Doda. Kuldip Singh Kahlon, in a press release here today stated that all the claims made by the Jammu and Kashmir government of curbing the militancy in the state were false. He said terrorists were still roaming freely to strike anywhere and were being supported by Pakistan.

The Khalsa college unit of Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers8217; Union and Khalsa College Staff Council in a joint meeting hailed the election of Raj Mohinder Singh Majitha as a member of Rajya Sabha. S.S. Kang, secretary Khalsa College unit of Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers8217; Union said here that Raj Mohinder Singh deserved the membership as he had been instrumental in rejuvenating the educational dent of the college and had procured crores of rupees for renovation of ancient monumental building of the college.

BODY FOUND
HOSHIARPUR:
The body of an unidentified youth, along with a rundown scooter, was found on Dhoot Kalan-Khurda link road last evening, Haryana police said, adding, that it seemed the scooterist was runover and killed by a get away vehicle. A case under section 304-a of IPC has been registered.
