HOSHIARPUR:
Four persons were killed and four injured as the tractor trolley they were travelling in turned turtle, near Hajipur, last night. Those killed are, Mukesh Kumar, Ramesh Kumar, Parveen and Anil Kumar. The injured Sandeep Kumar, Kaushalya Devi, Kamlesh and Ruldu Ram have been admitted to the civil hospital.

Cremated
JALANDHAR:
Kuldip Singh Bhatia, prominent Akali leader and the member of working committee of Shriomani Akali Dal who expired here yesterday was cremated here today. He was 62. Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal attended the cremation of Bhatia and laid wreaths on his body. Among other present on the occasion included state government ministers, Sarwan Singh and Saroop Singh, mayor of Jalandhar of other officials. Mahender Singh, eldest son of Bhatia lit the pyre. Badal expressed profound grief and sorrow on the death of Bhatia and expressed heartfelt sympathies with the family members of the deceased.

ABOHAR:
Union Railway Minister Nitish Kumar has assured the delegation led by Zora Singh Mann, MP, that the the proposal to lay a rail line between Fazilka and Abohar was being actively considered by the ministry. According to Surinder Saluja, a local Akali leader, the deputation also demanded the start of an inter-city train between Delhi and Abohar.

Medical camp
ABOHAR:
A free check-up and vaccination camp has been organised at local Mahatma Gandhi Vidyaiya by Nagari Sudhar Sabha. Children and pregnant women were vaccinated at the camp.

PATIALA:
The Punjab Markfed Field Employees Union has threatened to resort to agitation if the management failed to implement the 8220;already accepted8221; demands of the union within a month. In a press release issued today by the union, the decision had been taken in a meeting of the union held recently. The demand includes withdrawal of 8220;illegally issued charge sheets to Markfed field employees in 1994-95 and in 1995-96 as had already been agreed in a meeting held on September 23, 1997,8221; between the MD and the union representatives.

PATIALA:
The Save Patiala Committee will organise a rally before the office of the Commissioner of Patiala Municipal Corporation on June 25, according to a statement issued here yesterday by the committee. In a meeting held here yesterday under the presidentship of Bir Devinder Singh, former MLA, the committee said that step was in response to the failure of the district administration in not making proper arrangements to meet the challenge of floods in the district.

HOSHIARPUR:
Som Parkash, Hoshiarpur DC, has deputed additional deputy commissioner to inquire into the fire incident of record rooms at district court complex here yesterday. It may be recalled that fire suddenly broke out in the record room yesterday. Talking to newsmen here today, Som Parkash said that almost all the 150-year old judicial and executive record of Hoshiarpur district was reduced to ashes during the fire. The record rooms and office of the Vigilance Department located in the same building was damaged badly due to the fire.

Dharamshala inauguraed
AMRITSAR:
Baldev Raj Chawla, deputy speaker, Punjab Vidhan Sabha, inaugurated a dharamshala in memory of a renowned spiritual leader Baba Atare Shah here today.
