Kareena Kapoor sticks to just one sari in the forthcoming Chameli. In fact, she has worn two saris and one salwar kameez but they hardly get any screen time to register. So, here8217;s the tale of Chameli8217;s sari.

THE SARI A poster red chiffon drape with a bright, printed blouse. Please note, since Kapoor plays a prostitute in the film, the chiffon is not the kind favoured by Yash Chopra-Karan Johar for their mushy romances. Chameli8217;s chiffon is more of a sasta variety. Designer Manish Malhotra says, 8216;8216;It8217;s cheap chiffon, definitely not pure. I bought the material from the streets of Mumbai.8217;8217; According to Malhotra, the sari is 8216;8216;very kitsch8217;8217; and the blouse, 8216;8216;not at all expensive8217;8217;.

THE STORM What can one sari do, right? Well, it kick-started a nasty spat, for one. Both Malhotra and Ashley Rebello claimed they designed it. While the whole world and its cousin knows that Malhotra is the official designer for both the Kapoor kudis, eyebrows were raised when Rebello said that he8217;s the one. Malhotra says, 8216;8216;I have nothing to say. Somebody is obviously trying to get publicity out of one sari. Kareena has already spoken for me.8217;8217; And she did. 8216;8216;Manish has designed the sari. Rangita Nandy producer of Chameli wanted Rebello since Manish was out of town. But I only work with Manish with whom I share more of a personal than merely professional relationship. No one knows my body better than Manish and he8217;ll always be my designer,8217;8217; adds Kapoor.

THE SUBJECT For Kapoor, mostly known for her DKNY outfits, making a style statement in one sari was the real challenge. 8216;8216;Not many actresses have the guts to carry the whole film in one outfit. While the other heroines are still wearing DKNY and doing candyfloss stuff, I have done something drastically different. Chameli is not a run-of-the-mill film, so the clothes need to be different. Already the red sari and the red lipstick are so in-your-face that everybody is talking about it. Unknowingly, once again I8217;ve made a style statement.8217;8217;
