CHANDIGARH, July 23: Referring to the Punjab and Haryana High Court directions, City Police have said that from July 25, motorists violating traffic rules will be challaned.Officials pointed out that the Administration has requested the High Court to extend the date from which some of the directions are to be enforced by 45 days. The directions, however, will be carried out until the court grants extension or the apex court stays the order's operation. Officials added that the motorist's driving licence will be punched for each traffic violation. Women or pillion riders not wearing a helmet on a two-wheeler will be fined Rs 100. A Rs 500 fine will be levied on persons driving without a licence and minors driving unpermitted two-wheelers or cars.A motorist driving in excess of the speed limit, will be fined Rs 250 for the first offence and Rs 1,000 for subsequent offences. Rs 100 fine will be levied for improper parking, jumping a red traffic light, driving a motor vehicle with non-functional silencer or using musical horns.As for the use of black films on cars, the compounding fee has not been fixed by the authorities and for such cases, the licence will be impounded and sent to the court.
