The Indian cellular industry has notched up over one crore customers as of December 2002. For the month of December, the industry has recorded a growth of 7.7 per cent over the previous month making it one of the most fastest growing industry segments in the economy.
The rate of growth in cellular phones can be gauged by the fact that the country has only four crore basic phones.
The four metros have registered a marginal growth rate of 4.4 per cent in the month of December as compared to non metros. In Delhi, the subscriber base went up to 16.72 lakh in December from 15.92 lakh in November.
