Several names are doing the rounds for the UPA8217;s presidential candidate, but the one that has so far had the least resistance is that of External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee. If one were to make a case for him, it may not be that difficult a task, but the question of wider acceptability essentially boils down to whether Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati will agree to him. While this goes on, the word is that Mukherjee himself is willing and keeping a close watch on the developments. In fact, Saudi Arabian diplomats are feeling the side effects of all this politics. Mukherjee was to visit Saudi Arabia in April second week, but that had to be postponed because of his injury in a road accident. It was rescheduled for May first week, but again called off. This time at the behest of Mukherjee himself who said he did not want to leave the country till the presidential elections were over. Is that enough of a hint?
