London, Sept 2: Paceman Andy Caddick has made his point to the England selectors after being overlooked for the tour of Australia later this year. Caddick, a regular against Australia in the 1997 Ashes series, took eight for 64 as Somerset dismissed Worcestershire for 224 at Taunton yesterday.

His victims included Graeme Hick, also keen to make a point after his exclusion from the Ashes party. Hick, who lost out to Lancashire’s John Crawley in the 17-man squad, made 44.

Former West Indies captain Courtney Walsh also had a good day for Gloucestershire, taking six for 36 as Northamptonshire were shot out for 123 at Bristol. Gloucestershire were 150 for five in reply at the close.

Surrey and Lancashire were frustrated by heavy rain while second-placed Leicestershire lost half their side for 124 against Warwickshire before recovering to 190 for six.
