WR’s ticketless travel drive

In its drive against ticketless travelling, the Western Railway caught up with 955 cases and raked in fines of about Rs 55,725. The railway also organised fortress checks on August 10 at Bhayander and Virar stations and also on trains running between 7 am and 3 pm. A total of 156 ticket checking staff and 22 Railway Protection Force staff were deployed during this drive. V A Gangal is AAWI president

Advocate V A Gangal was on Friday elected as the president of the Advocates Association of Western India (AAWI) for a period of two years. Around 500 members of the association participated in the elections where Gangal defeated his rival, advocate S R Chitnis. The outgoing president of the association is advocate Dilip Bhonsale.

Advocate P A Redekar was elected the secretary while advocate J P Yagnik was elected the treasurer.

Advocate Randive and advocate B G Vaidya will be vice presidents for the next two years, while advocates Poonam Bhonsale, Teja Katdure,Vaidya MM, Rajesh More, Mukesh Aiya and Sabrad Suresh were elected as members of the association.

Industrial relations workshop

Labour officials and experts met at a national workshop held here recently on Industrial Relations for officials of the Central Ministry of Labour and State Labour Departments. The main objective of the workshop was to examine the changes taking place in industrial relations and to look at the policy options to secure decent jobs for all workers. The workshop also emphasised on the need to have greater social dialogue to prevent labour disputes and identify new opportunities for consensus and collaboration.

US consul general visits governor

The Consul General of the United States of America, David Good, called on Governor Dr P C Alexander at Raj Bhavan. Trade and business relations between India and the United States were discussed at the meeting. Good informed the governor that the business community in the United States was interested in bringing newinvestments in India, particularly in the infrastructural sector. He said that a high level business delegation would be visiting India very early for negotiations with the Indian business community. Donald Wells, principal officer at the United States Consulate was also present at the meeting.

The latest edition of the ‘Trains at a Glance’ time-table of the Western Railway (WR) has been made available, stated a press release that was issued by the WR today. The updated time-tables will be available for sale at all the Passenger Reservation Centres and booking offices at the following stations: Churchgate, Mumbai Central, Dadar, Bandra terminus, Andheri, Malad, Borivali, Bhayander, Vasai Road, Virar, Palghar, Vapi, Boisar, Dahanu Road, Valsad, Navsari, Surat, Nandurbar and Amalner. The time-tables will also be available at all A H Wheeler book stalls between Churchgate and Surat, the release added.
