Bordoloi8217;s election declared void

GUWAHATI, DEC 3: The election of Pradyut Bordoloi, Congress candidate from Assam8217;s Margherita Assembly constituency has been declared void8217; and his election set aside by the Guwahati High Court on Friday.

Justice D Biswas in his judgement, on the election petition filed by one Swapan Roy against the rejection of his nomination papers as an independent candidate by the returning officer of the constituency, declared the election void.

The declaration was made in terms of the provisions of Section 1001c of the Representation of People8217;s Act, 1951, as the nomination of the petitioner Roy for the by-election to the Margherita constituency in 1998 was 8220;improperly rejected.8221;
