The BJP used the fourth anniversary of the UPA Government on Thursday to launch a vicious attack on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, using adjectives like 8220;lame duck8221;, 8220;non-performing8221; and 8220;weak8221;.
8220;A non-performing Prime Minister becomes lame duck in the last year of his tenure. It8217;s for the first time that India has seen a Prime Minister who has been lame duck from the very beginning 8212; Singh has no control over his Government or his ministerial colleagues, who openly ignore and defy his authority. The office of the PM has been devalued under him,8221; charged BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad.
The BJP dared the Congress to project him as its prime ministerial candidate in the next elections, saying Congress president Sonia Gandhi exercises more power than the PM 8220;without any accountability to Parliament8221; and senior bureaucrats routinely report to 10, Janpath.
At a time when the UPA Government flaunted achievements of the last four years, the BJP came out with a list of Government8217;s failures including 8220;bartering8221; national security for votes, 8220;imperilling8221; food security and 8220;sanctifying8221; corruption.
8220;It8217;s been a saga of failure on all fronts, compounded by its betrayal of the common man in whose name the Congress had sought votes,8221; the BJP spokesperson said. 8220;The UPA Government8217;s failure to check spiralling inflation has imperilled their economic and food security,8221; he added.
Taking on Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil, he said by his comments on Afzal the minister had given Pakistan an opportunity to intervene in India8217;s internal affairs and that too, on the question of national security, he said.
