Nocil bags BCCI award

MUMBAI: Nocil, an Arvind Mafatlal group company, has bagged the Bombay Chamber of Commerce amp; Industry BCCI8217;s Good Corporate Citizen8217; for its leadership in environment protection and community development work.The award was presented by the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Manohar Joshi to Dr N M Dhuldhoya, vice chairman and managing director of Nocil at the Chamber8217;s 162nd AGM on Friday held in Mumbai.

At its Thane facilities, the company has created a green neighbourhood and an arboretum with about 700 different species including a few exotic ones. A green traffic island beatifying the Vashi residential area. An achievement is its unique afforestation efforts in collabroation with Bhartiya Agro Industries Foundation. About 104 acres of land to the east of Nocil8217;s petrochemical plant has been developed into a lush green forest.

New Nabard ED

MUMBAI: M G Marwaha has been elevated as the executive director of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural DevelopmentNABARD with effect from June 8, 1998. Marwaha was earlier looking after the Chandigarh regional office of the bank as a chief general manager.

Hongkong Bank

MUMBAI: Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation has announced the opening of its central services centre in Worli, Mumbai. The new office will house the Hongkong Bank8217;s credit card division, custodian services, phone banking, network services, training and technical services. These departments were previously housed in various bank locations throughout the City, which will now be used for expanding operations.

Bank of Baroda

MUMBAI: Bank of Baroda BoB has made a donation of Rs 51 lakh to the Prime Minister8217;s relief fund in aid of the Gujarat cyclone victims. Employees of BoB have also been requested to donate a day8217;s salary to the Fund. BoB has offered its services for collection of donations through its wide network of branches, according to a press release issued here.

Flair Pens

MUMBAI: The Rs 30-crore Flair PensLtd has announced major expansion plans. It has launched three new designs under the Pierre Cardin label titled V-King, Tycoon and Studio8217;. The company entered into a tie-up with Pierre Cardin two years ago. Pierre Cardin has now made India its base for manufacturing pens.

Century Textiles

MUMBAI: CENTURY Textiles has been awarded the Texprocil Gold Trophy for outstanding export performance in fabrics for the year 1996-97. The company has won this award for 16 years in a row. The award, instituted by the Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council, was given to G S Mody, executive president, Century, by Textiles Minister Kashiram Rana. Century Yarn, a division of the company, is a 100 per cent EOU working on 100 per cent cotton yarn. It exports 75 per cent of the production.

Ponni Sugars

CHENNAI: Ponni Sugars amp; Chemicals has improved its working for year ended March 31, 1998 with turnover of Rs 91.38 crore against Rs 56.88 crore in the previous year. After charging depreciation of Rs 3.4crore Rs 0.13 crore, loss for the year was lower at Rs 2.7 crore Rs.3.6 crore. Dividend has been skipped again in view of the loss.

FM8217;s assurance

NEW DELHI: Finance minister Yashwant Sinha said that effective steps will be taken to bring down high level of non-performing assets NPAs in the banks in a meeting with the United Forum of Bank Unions.
