A day after her attempted suicide, an exasperated RAW issued marching orders for Nisha Bhatia from the training institute in Gurgaon, where she has been working and residing for several years.
On Tuesday, a shocked establishment was witness to the Director-level officer making allegations of being sexually harassed by senior RAW officials in front of the national media at the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, where she was admitted after she consumed rat poison at the PMO.
The RAW acted swiftly, first by issuing a rare rebuttal of her charges and on Wednesday morning serving her with orders asking her to demit her charge at the training institute and to report to the RAW headquarters instead.
“No new charge has been assigned to me. As of now it means I am without a job,” Bhatia told The Indian Express. She said nobody from RAW had contacted her in an official capacity after Tuesday’s incident and that she might file yet another complaint, this time in court.
While top Government officials allege Bhatia had exhibited an “erratic” interest in the inquiry set up at the behest of National Security Advisor M K Narayanan, her going public with the allegations could help the RAW in strengthening its case of the woman officer committing grave insubordination and violating the external intelligence agency’s strict conduct rules.
