The dictionary meaning of cellulite is lumpy fat especially on women8217;s hips and thighs. Today it is not unheard of men getting cellulite.

In fact it can happen to anyone. The waif and the curvy mama. Its the just can8217;t shift it bane of our life which was first discovered by a French physical called Balfour in 1816.

And what is it caused by? Inspite of tremendous research no sole cause has been determined. Some of the factors that have been ascertained are genetics, hormones, poor circulation, dieting or binging, build up of toxics, a diet lacking is essential vitamins and very little exercise.

Women8217;s bodies are supposed to contain a gene on the second X chromosome which is believed to be linked to cellulite. Hormones like oestrogen encourage the storing of fat, it is believed.

In women, cellulite collects on the lower body hips, thighs and glues, while in men it tends to collect around the stomach, chest and under the arms. Abroad more and more people are going in for surgery. Since cellulite is fat buried deep in the surface of the skin liposuction and liposculpture are used to take off inches from the area treated. While this will improve contours it can do little to stop the recurrence of cellulite. Cellulopolysis and endermology are also used but besides being extremely expensive requiring a lot of sittings they can have side-effects and still not solve the problem.

Some ways to tackle this problem though are overwhelming your diet which means eating regular meals and drinking at least 8 glasses of water to flush out toxins. Fresh fruits and vegetables, fish which contains amino acids is also a good bet as it stimulates your metabolism. Potassium rich foods like brussels sprouts, melon, carrots also help expel toxins. Improving your posture can help stop the spread of cellulite. Stand and sit straight as poor posture can lead to inefficient flow of blood as well as lymph and waste within the body. This leads to congestion which means an accumulation of toxins and waste that cause cellulite. Yoga and ballet will also help alleviate the situation.

In fact any kind of exercise will help rid you of cellulite, walking, cycling, stair climbing, aerobics, dancing and swimming done for at least 30 minutes, 5 times a week will help combat the problem.
