After Kolkata, the pitch at Mohali’s PCA stadium is also under the BCCI scanner for being low on bounce and the cricket board has asked the local authorities to ensure grass cover on the track for the Indian Premier League (IPL) matches there.
M P Pandove, BCCI joint secretary and co-chairman of IPL Technical Committee, said there were complaints about the ball not carrying and the bounce not being consistent.
Pandove said the bounce would be even after the grass cover is provided, which would help batsmen play strokes.
“They have been directed to prepare pitches accordingly as the focus was that wicket should be such which results in high scoring,” he said.
Similar concerns about the pitch were also raised in Kolkata after the IPL match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Hyderabad Deccan Chargers.
The BCCI has recommended a system of grading of the pitches according to certain parameters, including the amount of bounce, the quality of outfield and the amount of greenery.
“After the conclusion of the IPL the venues would be graded and awards would be given to the best,” Pandove said.
Meanwhile, Punjab Cricket Association chief I S Bindra admitted that the turnout at the first match here against Chennai was less than expected.
“But hopefully, it would improve for the next match, He said.
“IPL is roaring, we only wish that our team Kings XI Punjab also rocks,” the former BCCI Chief said referring to the two successive losses suffered by the team.
