
NEW DELHI, November 4: BAV Inter College Meerut and Children Academy Bhopal have qualified for the super league from group 2 and 3 in the 16th Nehru-ONGC sub-junior hockey tournament now in progress at National Stadium here. The Meerut boys today recorded their second successive big win in their three-team group, humbling St Anthony High School, Goa 11-0.
While B A V Inter College, Meerut scored a resounding 11-0 win over St Anthony High School Goa in group 2, Government High School from Gurgaon recorded a 7-0 verdict over Government Boys High School Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir. In the two other matches slated for the day, Government High School Kawnpuri, Mizoram defeated Sadul Sports School Rajasthan 3-0 and Sat Guru Pratap Academy played a goalless draw with Torban Junior School from Manipur.
Shamsher Khan 3, Satish Kumar 2 and Imtiaz Ahmed 2 played a major role in BAV Inter College8217;s second successive wn in the tournament. The Meerut team which beat Shivaji Vidyaniketan Maharashtra 12-0 yesterday, led 7-0 at the interval against the Goa team. Satish, who gave the team the lead in the eighth minute, struck once more in the 15th minute, a penalty corner conversion, for the team8217;s fifth goal.
Shamsher Khan scored his three goals in the 10th, 11th and 49th minute. The other goal-getters were Jagdish Yadav 13th minute, Md Ishak Ali 23rd, Hemant Kumar 35th and Rajeshwar Singh 55th. The winners led 7-0 at the interval. The Goanese were outplayed, earning just one penalty corner while the Meerut boys got nine and converted four of them.
The Meerut team has topped the three-team group with six points.
A three-goal effort by Karandip Singh was the highlight of Gurgaon school8217;s runaway win over Poonch team. Pawan Kumar, Gulshan, Suresh and Somvir added a goal each to the team8217;s tally. The winners led 5-0 at the interval.
Two goals by Lalsangbera 17th and 26th minutes and one by Lalchhanhima 40th for the Mizoram team sealed the fate of the Rajasthan school, who trailed 0-2 at the interval. It was the Mizoram team8217;s first win in two games. The winners, however, could finish only second in their group 3 as Children Academy from Bhopal have topped the group with six points.
