Returning Officer of the District Bar Association DBA, Ashok Mital, said all arrangements are in place to ensure smooth polling during the Bar elections to be held on Saturday. He said 1,694 advocates are expected to cast their votes to decide the fate of 26 candidates contesting for different posts. Polling will start at 9 am and continue till 4.30 pm.
Current president of the association and a contender for the post of president, Parupkar Singh Ghumman, claimed that the DBA was facing a severe financial crunch when he joined office, which was resolved due to his efforts.
Opening a post office, paving the parking lot, installation of submersible water pumps and a water reservoir, construction of a park and free Internet facility were other achievements listed by him. If elected this year, he promised a cooperative housing scheme for lawyers, installation of CCTV cameras in the court complex, opening a bank on the court premises and 15 per cent quota for lawyers in plots allotted by Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority and Ludhiana Improvement Trust.
