NEW DELHI, October 22: Last year8217;s runners-up Mohun Bagan Calcutta started their campaign with a win over Vasco Sports Club Goa while defending champions FC Kochin had to settle for a goalless draw with Air India Mumbai in the quarter-final league of the Kelvinator-Durand Cup, here today.

The win gave Bagan three points to head Group A while FC Kochin and Air India earned one point each.Both Bagan and Kochin were without their key players who are doing national duty.

BAGAN DOMINATE: Despite dominating the first half and taking a goal advantage in the early part of the game, Bagan failed to impress against Vasco. However, it was their foreign8217; star, Iraqi Basim Yonan, who saved the day with an eighth minute goal.

CHIMA SLAPS FAN: A Mohun Bagan fan was slapped by star striker Chima Okerie after the match against Vasco Goa. The spectator patted the Nigerian on the back in a bid to congratulate him. But Chima, known for his temper, turned back and slapped him.

That incidentshocked the fans as they crowded near the Bagan dressing room demanding an apology from the player. When Chima refused to come out the crowd grew aggressive and threatened to pull him out of the dressing room and 8220;teach him a lesson8221;. Sensing trouble, the army police swung into action and dispersed the angry crowd.
