Arjun Atwal and Daniel Chopra carded two-under 70 each and were tied at 55th at the PGA West in the first round of the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic.

Atwal, who played at the La Quinta course had birdies on the fifth, 11th and 17th hole and had just one bogey.

Chopra had four birdies and two bogeys at the Bermuda Dunes course. His birdies came on the first, third, 10th and 18th, while he dropped shots on the second and sixth.

While Atwal and Chopra were going to their respectable rounds, Pat Perez shot a sensational 12-under 60 in the opening round to join the elite company.

Perez became only the 20th player in PGA Tour history to shoot 60 or lower. The record is 59, shared by David Duval, Chip Beck and Al Geiberger.

Perez, 29, and still looking for his first PGA Tour win, scored 12 birdies and no bogeys and went into a three-shot lead over Chad Campbell.
