Follow-up Visit

Two days after it was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the exhibition of Buddha’s sacred Piprahwa relics at the Qila Rai Pithoda in New Delhi had a surprise visitor — Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge. A follower of Buddhism himself, Kharge visited the venue in the afternoon on Monday and spent about 30-40 minutes there, taking deep interest in the exhibits, it is learnt.

Welcome Home

On his first visit to his hometown Gorakhpur after taking charge as the Uttar Pradesh BJP president, MoS Finance Pankaj Chaudhary had a string of welcomes awaiting him on his travel route. Chaudhary was welcomed by BJP workers at around 50 places from the airport to the BJP’s regional office and then on the way to Gorakhnath temple and finally his residence. Born and brought up in Gorakhpur, Chaudhary started his political career as a civic body Councillor and then held the post of Gorakhpur’s Deputy Mayor.

Final Push

The BJP may convene a meeting of its national executive at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi around January 20, according to party insiders. It is in this meeting that party’s national working president Nitin Nabin may be announced as the successor of national president Jagat Prakash Nadda. BJP insiders say the meeting may last two to three days in the presence of the party’s top leadership.
