
GUWAHATI, JULY 2: The flood situation in Assam remained grave today as the mighty Brahmaputra was rising all along its course inundating vast areas throughout the state.
The Brahmaputra and its various tributaries were in spate and was flowing above the danger level in Dibrugarh, Neamatighat and Dhubri while it was flowing above the warning level in the city here, in Tezpur and Goalpara, according to official sources here.
The flood scene in worst hit Dhemaji district in upper Assam was critical as over 100 villages were inundated by the rising water.
Surface communication has been disrupted in various places of the district as flood water overtopped the national highway and rail lines, sources said.
Meanwhile, the Kaziranga national park authorities are gearing up to face the flood season this year after suffering heavy losses in terms of animal including the prized one-horn rhinos last year.
