
On Army Day, three days from now, the country8217;s first counter-insurgency warfare doctrine will be unveiled and ingested into service. The doctrine will be reviewed again in five years, and for the first time encompasses experiences, methods and processes in places like J-K and the North East, and includes counter-insurgency, counter-terror and low intensity conflict.
The doctrine, formulated by the Army Training Command in Shimla, has been sent out to all formations under the Northern and Eastern commands and will be discussed at the next Army Commanders Conference later this year.
Army chief Gen J J Singh described the 40-page manual titled 8220;Doctrine for Sub-Conventional Operations8221; as an 8220;invaluable resource since sub-conventional operations are likely to remain a major responsibility for the Army in the foreseeable future.8221;
