With the Punjab Governor today sending the file back to Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, appointment of the next Vice-Chancellor of the Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar, seems to have hit a roadblock.

The file had recommended the name of Delhi IIT graduate and a former pracharak of RSS, Dr Rajneesh Arora, for the post.

The search panel had, in fact, recommended names of four persons, including Dr Arora and Brig Surjit Singh Pabla, the pro-V-C of Manipal University.

Dr Rajneesh Arora was the choice of the government. He has the strong backing of the BJP since he had long served as an RSS member. Till last month, Dr Arora was the vice-president of the Punjab RSS.

Meanwhile, leader of Opposition Rajinder Kaur Bhattal condemned the move to 8220;saffronise8221; the post of the V-C. She said the only basis of appointment should be merit and experience. She said it was ironical that the posts of V-Cs were being filled on a 8220;BJP quota8221; or a 8220;SAD quota8221; basis.
