NEW DELHI, September 25: Some unidentified assailants stabbed a UP policeman in the Bhajanpura area of north-east Delhi early this morning. He was later spotted lying on the road by the police control room staff.

The Bhajanpura police has registered a case of attempted murder under section 307 of the Indian Penal Code. Kanwar Pal, 32, was bleeding profusely from multiple stab wounds when he was rushed to the Guru Tegh Bahadur hospital where his condition is reportedly critical.

The police suspect the motive of the attack as robbery. However, since the victim has not yet been able to make a statement, it8217;s unclear what, if anything, has been stolen from him. Kanwar Pal is posted at Kanpur. He was on his way to his in-laws8217; Bhajanpura residence when the attack took place.

He had apparently come to fetch his wife who had reportedly been staying with her parents for a while. This is the third such incident when a policeman has been attacked in north-east Delhi. Four days ago, a Delhi Police constable and his wife were stabbed by unidentified assailants. Another constable8217;s house was recently robbed by some intruders who also stabbed him.
