KHARAR, May 12: A fire broke out again in the Kharar Textiles Mills KTM colony here this morning. Though any major loss of life and property was averted following timely action of the local administration, yet, it has reportedly caused a loss of thousands of rupees, as three jhuggis were gutted in the fire.

Earlier, 13 jhuggis were destroyed in a major fire which broke out in the same colony on Monday, causing a loss of lakhs of rupees. Mohali fire control officer, B.S. Sandhu, told ENS that the fire which broke out at about 11.30 am from the jhuggi of Sukhdev Singh, was brought under control after half an hour with the help of a fire engine which was summoned by the local administration from Mohali.

Sandhu said that the reason behind the fire was not yet found and ruled out the possibility of a short circuit being the culprit as there were no power connections in the jhuggis.

Kharar SDM Avtar Chand Sharma immediately rushed to site and reviewed the whole situation. He said that the involvement of some anti-social elements in the incidents cannot be ruled out. He asked the mill authorities to arrange to provide financial assistance to the affected mill workers to rehabilitate them. The SDM directed them to install hydrants in the mill premises and get some fire fighting arrangements which were non-existing at present.

Sharma said that detailed report of both the incidents has been sent to the district administration for necessary action. He has also asked the Kharar DSP to conduct a probe into the incidents to avert the reoccurrence of such incidents. Meanwhile, Rajinder Puri, general manager of KTM when contacted, said a sum of Rs 1,000 each had been advanced to all the affected workers.
