KAKINADA, Dec 26: Defending champions Karnataka would like to forget their Boxing Day performance at DSA Stadium here for many reasons. First they could not prevent Andhra from taking the important first innings lead; secondly, nothing went right for their bowlers and fielders; and finally, skipper Sunil Joshi looked a mere shadow of himself.

Andhra batsmen methodically overwhelmed Karnataka8217;s moderate 248 and at draw of stumps, were 306 for 8, with Ranganath 26 and N Madhukar 0 still in the middle on the second day of the four-day South Zone tie. I Srinivas 85 135m, 119b, 13215;4 and RvCh Prasad 78 199m, 169b, 9215;4, 2215;6 were Andhra8217;s chief contributors, putting on 144 for the fifth wicket. Earlier, the Karnataka medium pacers had used the morning conditions to reduce the hosts for 83-4. Tanveer fashions TN win

Tanveer Jabbar batted with vengeance. He remained unbeaten andhis knock of 72 6215;4, 1215;6 fashioned Tamil Nadu8217;s six-wicket victory over Hyderabad in the South Zone one-day championship at MA Chidambaram Stadium today.

Earlier, put into bat, Hyderabad lost wickets at regular intervals and but for a patient 69 by Md Azharuddin, the innings would have folded up much earlier. Mediumpacer Gokulakrishnan was responsible for Hyderabad8217;s collapse, his dream second spell bringing him four victims for just seven runs in 3.2 overs.

Bengal in trouble

A brilliant century by Pravanjan Mallick 108: 246b, 10215;4, 1215;6 and his 131-run third wicket stand with Sanjay Raul 53 helped hosts Orissa post 370 in their first innings on the second day of their four-day East Zone league match against Bengal today. At close, Bengal were struggling at 53 for the loss of three top orderbatsmen Nikhil Haldipur 15, Deep Dasgupta 1 and Srikant Kalyani 2.
