CHESTER-LE-STREET, May 20: Pakistan captain Wasim Akram followed his 37 from 19 deliveries in their innings with three wickets as his team crushed debutantes Scotland by 94 runs in the Group B World Cup match.

But it was not one-way traffic for the Pakistanis. They were 58 for four before the recovery was effected with Yousuf Youhana, Moin Khan and Akram leading the way.

Youhana and Moin shared a run-a-ball stand of 103 for the sixth wicket to save Pakistan from blushes.

Pakistan’s top order, which failed against West Indies, once again exposed its frailty with five of its batsmen being dismissed with just 92 runs on board after put in to bat.

Youhana, who came in when Pakistan were on rocky shores at 60 for four, played a patient game and after he lost his partner Inzamam-ul Haq (12), dug his team out of trouble along with Moin Khan.

Youhana, who struck unbeaten 81, took Pakistan to safety while Moin Khan chipped in with 47 off 41 balls. Skipper Wasim Akram, after smashing 42 off 28 balls againstthe Caribbeans, hit out in the slog overs to remain undefeated on 37 off just 19 deliveries.

Youhana and Akram put on a quickfire 66 as the Scottish attack wilted in the final overs.
