DECEMBER 10: Agradneya V S brushed aside the token challenge offered by debutants Andheri YMCA to storm into the women8217;s final of the 12th Bombay YMCA Open basketball tournament, sponsored by Kanara Engineering, at the Ghatkopar court, today.

Andheri YMCA, who reached the semi-final through a victory over another new entrant LTG in the three-team preliminary league, were no match for the experienced Agradneya girls who now meet Fatima in the final.

Agradneya VS 55 Manisha Kaprekar 24 bt Andheri YMCA 14 Shazia Kazi 8 HT: 28-10; Fatima, Ghatkopar 64 Anita Krishnan 22, Sangita D8217;Silva 15 bt Ghatkopar YMCA 17 Pramila Pawar 8.

Central win

Central Railway beat a depleted Bank of India 2-1 in Group B of the Air-India Millenium Football Tournament at Kalina today.

Central rallied through Asif Jamal 39th minute and Shanta Kumar 69th after BoI had taken lead in the eighth through Shankar Thakur8217;s header.

Surinder nets winner

Khalsa XI registered their second straight victory when they just about defeated Bombay Republicans B8217; by a solitary goal in the Bombay Hockey Association Division I League at the Mahindra Stadium, Churchgate, today.

The all-important goal was scored by centre-forward Surinder S Sehmi in the 45th minute.

AVM, Fr Agnel best

Arya Vidya Mandir AVM, Bandra, and Fr Agnel Multipurpose School, Vashi, claimed the boys and girls8217; team championship titles, respectively, in the recently-concluded 23rd Bombay YMCA Inter-School/Junior College aquatic championships.

Santosh Pansare champ

Santosh Pansare of Bombay City, with a timing of 1:42:35.05 secs, captured the top spot in the ninth Navi Mumbai Sports Association 70 km cycle race, conducted by the Amateur Cycling Association of Bombay Suburban District, recently. Pansare also won the Prime prize.
