A day after killing a Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorist involved in the Qasim Nagar massacre, police today arrested one of his accomplices from the Raika forests near here.
Identifying the arrested terrorist as Mohammad Abdullah alias Abu Talah of Pakistan, police claimed that he had confessed to his involvement in the killing of 29 people in Qasim Nagar on July 13.
The militant was arrested during a search operation in the forest area early this morning, IGP P.L. Gupta said.
On interrogation, Talah confessed he along with five heavily armed Pakistani terrorists were ‘‘launched’’ by the Pakistani Army from Tatapani sector of PoK in Poonch area some months ago after advanced training, he said.
After spending a couple of months in different areas of Poonch, Talah and Abu Idnam were hand picked by Pakistani commander of LeT Abu Umar to conduct large-scale killings of members of a particular community in Jammu with a view to causing disturbances in India, he said.
After the Qasim Nagar carnage, Talah and Idnam took shelter in the forests awaiting an opportunity to escape to Poonch, Gupta said.
Idnam and a police SI were killed and two constables were injured in an encounter in Raika forests, which is behind Qasim Nagar and Rajiv Nagar localities yesterday.
