PANCHKULA, May 7: In the life of a reporter, there is hardly a morning that is refreshing and invigorating. But today was one of those rare mornings, as, sitting amidst the ebullient children and watching the graceful movements of Suchitra Mitra and her students, one could not help feel elevated.
It was the beginning of the workshop in Bharatanatyam that the Ghoomer Academy of Arts and Culture intends to conduct at Hansraj Public School in Sector 6 till June 20. And who else but Suchitra is better equipped for instilling interest into young minds? Suchitra8217;s communication skills and her students8217; body language quot;Dance is a language, body language, quot; she told the children provided a perfect blend.
That she had worked hard on her students was evident from the grace and elan with which they performed. While Deepti and Ravi demonstrated the various adavus which she called the quot;alphabet of the dancequot;, the foursome of Asha Bhaskaran, Nisha Bhaskaran, Ishani Aggarwal and Chaitali elaborated the dance through its gestures and movements. Their spontaneity was an instant hit with the audience, more so when they did a piece in abhinaya. The session culminated in a Meera Bhajan by Suchitra herself, an item of total surrender.
Since the Academy has two more summer workshops in Punjabi and Rajasthani folk dance forms lined up, one got to see charming Rekha Saini from Jaipur who did an equally enthralling number to Arjun Jaipuri8217;s Kesariya balam aaoni. Rekha will conduct the workshop in Rajasthani folk dance at Moti Ram Arya Public School in Sector 7 from May 15 for 15 days. The workshop on Punjabi folk will be conducted by Arvinder Singh from Hoshiarpur at Blue Bird Model School in Sector 16 during the same period.
