AHMEDABAD, Aug 19: The BJP received a setback when around 500 party workers from the Ellisbridge area joined the Congress on Wednesday.
Led by Divyang Pancholi and Prakash Pandya, they took out a parivartan rally8217; to the PCC office in the afternoon before joining the party in the presence of GPCC president C D Patel in the evening. Patel, who returned from New Delhi the previous day, told them that their decision to quit the BJP and join the Congress was a right step in the right direction.
Announcing the collective decision to join the Congress, Pancholi said he and the others were convinced that their hardwork and dedication were not recognised in the BJP. He said the BJP bosses misled them to the path of fanaticism to capture power but failed to address basic issues like price rise, the law and order situation or unemployment.
Patel had gone to Delhi in connection with the finalisation of the PCC office-bearers with the high command. He, however, returned with one more promise instead of the list. When he returned, he was greeted with 8220;confirmed reports8221; of announcement of a final list from Delhi. He said the announcement would take more time.
