
CHANDIGARH, Aug 28: Nearly 400 illegal kundi connections were removed in Colony no. 4 today even as rain forced the Administration to put off the drive to remove kundis inside the colony.
And as has been the trend, almost half the jhuggis remained without power only till around 8 p.m., when most kundis re-surfaced. The enforcement staff accompanied by police personnel reached the colony around 10 a.m. for the umpteenth operation and it took them less than 90 minutes to remove the kundis. The previous operation in the colony was carried out a few weeks ago and the residents were given a specific date to get electricity connections.
According to information, as of now, the Electricity Department has received only 19 test reports and 600 demand notices while 4,100 persons were distributed forms. Nearly 1,900 persons have deposited the security amount.Deputy Commissioner R.K. Rao said it was to speed up the quot;slow responsequot; that they had removed the kundis. quot;We8217;re trying to persuade them to apply but if they don8217;t we may be compelled to register cases against them,quot; he added.
Area8217;s municipal councillor Rajinder Kumar said there were certain technical problems as a result of which the residents were unable to apply for connections though they want to. quot;Also, the authorities have not chalked out a proper electrification plan,quot; he added.
