March 1: Mohammadali Mohammed Sahajgar was convicted to three years rigorous imprisonment for a series of robberies in a Western Railway local in April, 1995, by Additional Sessions Judge Laxmi Tonsekar on Friday, February 27. However, his accomplices in the case, Sambhu Chabila Yadav and Mohammed Shaika, were acquitted by the judge, while another accomplice, Balbahadur Chandrabhadur Tamang, is dead.

On April 7, 1995, the complainant, Salim Shaikh Nasir, along with two of his friends, boarded a Borivli-bound local from Charni Road at 4.15 am. When the train reached Andheri, four persons boarded the train, and one of them robbed Nasir of Rs 200 at chopper-point. As the train moved out of the station, the accused stood on either side of the entrance and prevented passengers from both alighting as well as boarding the train. However, Nasir and his friends managed to caught hold of Mohammadali and handed him over to the railway police. The others were apprehended later. Eight witnesses were examined by SpecialPublic Prosecutor RN Mishra, while Naveen Chamal appeared for the accused.
