Kriti Sanon loves to keep her skincare routine simple and easy. But like many of us, she too struggles with issues like pimples or whiteheads, which she ends up popping. Calling it one of her ‘worst’ habits, the National Film Award winner gave her fans and followers a sneak peek into her skincare preparation before hair and makeup begins.

“The worst thing that I do to my skin is actually that I pick my skin when I see a pimple, a white head or something because I feel irritated like I just need to get it out. So, I ended up a few days back with a spot on my nose. But we have concealer, so it’s fine,” shared Sanon.

Sanon added that after applying her moisturiser, she directly goes in with sunscreen as she does not like applying the two separately. She “always kind of forgets” to apply sunscreen on the ears.

In the video, Sanon then goes on to finish it up with a coat of lip balm. “Ready,” said the entrepreneur who recently launched her skincare brand Hyphen.

Many of us also tend to pick or pop our whiteheads and pimples. Is it a good practice?

According to Dr Rinky Kapoor, consultant dermatologist, cosmetic dermatologist and dermato-surgeon, The Esthetic Clinics, picking your skin when you see whiteheads or pimples is a common but harmful habit for several reasons.

“It can worsen the issue. Squeezing these blemishes can push bacteria and debris deeper into the skin, leading to inflammation, infection, and scarring. Moreover, picking damages the surrounding healthy skin, causing redness and more pimples to appear. It disrupts the skin’s natural healing process, prolonging the time it takes for blemishes to fade,” she said.

Additionally, picking can lead to long-term consequences like post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and depressed scars, which are difficult to treat. “It’s essential to resist the urge and instead opt for gentle skincare routines and, if necessary, consult a dermatologist for proper treatment,” the expert concluded.
