A MURDER plot planned for three months was executed on Friday – after two failed attempts – by three persons, including the teenaged daughter of the victim, the Vadodara rural police said on Saturday. The girl has been detained and the other two youths arrested in connection with the murder of her father, who was in his mid-40s, police said.
The trio planned the crime as the victim was opposed to his daughter’s relationship with one of the other two accused. The victim (girl’s father) had often confined her to a room in their house and filed a complaint under the POCSO Act, after which the youth was jailed and recently granted bail, police said.
The girl allegedly watched from a window of her residence as one of the other accused allegedly stabbed her father to death in the backyard, hours after she “laced the family’s dinner with sedatives”, police said on the basis of her interrogation.
A court in Vadodara on Saturday remanded the two youths – both adults – in police custody for two days. Police said the Juvenile Justice Board would decide if the girl should be tried in the case as an adult, following an assessment.
After they were informed by the victim’s brother, the police reached the spot on Friday and found the body with stab wounds. They began a murder investigation on the basis of a complaint filed by the family. Within hours, they zeroed in on the victim’s daughter. As the probe progressed, a sinister plot allegedly hatched by the girl, along with her male friend, was revealed.
“On Thursday night, the girl laced her parents’ food with a sedative and confirmed that they were unresponsive. Then, she called her male friend around 2:30 am, who, along with an accomplice, stabbed the victim to death in the backyard while she allegedly watched from the window… Such was the resentment,” Vadodara district Superintendent of Police Sushil Agrawal told The Indian Express on Saturday.
The crime was executed after two failed attempts just days ago. “She had tried to administer the sedative to the parents mixed with food earlier but her mother discarded the food as it had a foul taste. She attempted to administer the sedative again this week, mixing it with the meal. When her friend (accused) insisted that she must confirm if the sedative had worked, she let out a scream and the mother had woken up. So, they aborted the plan. On Thursday night, as the sedative worked, she called her friend and they (the other two accused) killed the father,” Agrawal said.
According to the police, the trouble in the family began a few months ago when the victim had objected to his daughter’s relationship. “His older daughter eloped with someone in the past and so he imposed restrictions on his younger daughter. He used to lock her up in a room with her mother at night and guard the house. He had also filed a POCSO complaint against the arrested accused, alleging that his daughter was abducted. But he (accused) re-established contact with the girl after being granted bail. They planned the murder over nearly three months as the father had become an ‘obstacle’.”
