Do you look at the dimples on your thighs every time you pass by your mirror? If you’re one of those people, then you might have stumbled upon a video by content creator Ishita Mangal on Instagram wherein she listed the various ways one can get rid of cellulite.
According to Dr Aanchal Panth, a dermatologist, cellulite is “a collection of fat in certain areas with tissue strands separating these fat collections, causing a dimpling in the skin giving an orange peel appearance.”
You may have noticed that cellulite is predominantly seen in women. This is because of the influence of estrogen, Dr Panth told indianexpress.com.
In the video posted by Mangal, she talked about methods like dry brushing, massaging etc to get rid of cellulite. Take a look.

So, can you really say bye-bye to your cellulite like it’s a sabzi you don’t like? The answer is no!
Dr Madhu Chopra, a cosmetologist and managing director of Studio Aesthetique, said, “Cellulite can never fully be removed although there are ways to reduce the appearance of these bumps.”
Debunking the myths surrounding cellulite removal and the ones that Mangal proclaims, Dr Panth said, “It cannot be removed by dry brushing. It cannot be removed by creams. Massages will not make it better.”
Although brushing your skin with a hard-bristled brush or a coffee and olive oil mixture can help with lymphatic drainage so it may temporarily improve the appearance of cellulite but there are no significant or long-lasting results, according to Dr Panth.
Dr Chopra pulled even fat-burning creams out of the running saying that they have not worked in removing cellulite, in her experience. There are some medical procedures that may improve its experience like acoustic wave therapy or machines with pulsed micro vibrations. Other than that, nothing has seemed to work against cellulite, both dermatologists stated.
Cellulite is generally passed down through your genes, just like a disease would, though it is not one. Even though exercise reduces the appearance of cellulite, there is no way to remove it. Not even liposuction, which may even worsen it, according to Panth.
A common misconception about cellulite is that it only happens to the overweight or the obese when that is simply not true. Women with cellulite tend to perceive themselves negatively as unattractive or out of shape.
The problem is not the cellulite but the way we look at it. When we accept it as an inherent part of our body like we would the colour of our eyes or the shape of our nose, we will be able to do away with these misconceptions about its removal.
