Not just colour, experts suggest it is equally necessary to ensure your urine is plain and clear, without any bubbles.

According to functional medicine practitioner Dr Shirley Koeh, if it’s the first episode of bubbles in urine, ensure you hydrate. “Don’t try to hold urine; pass it as soon as possible. Then bubbles should go away,” said Dr Koeh.

However, if you see persistent episodes of bubbles in the urine, it could indicate the presence of protein which warrants further medical investigation.

Let’s understand more from an expert.

Dr Ashutosh Baghel, consultant urologist, Wockhardt Hospitals Mira Road, agreed that bubbles in urine can be considered normal when they form occasionally. “But when these bubbles are too frequent or persistent, they can be indicative of various underlying health conditions,” said Dr Baghel.

“Normally, bubbles form in urine due to fast flow. Persistent bubbles in your urine can easily pinpoint issues like proteinuria or a condition where excessive protein gets leaked into your urine due to kidney problems,” added Dr Baghel.

Due to dehydration, your urine may get concentrated, giving it a bubble appearance. “In some rare cases, conditions like anal fistula or UTIs (urinary tract infection) can also happen. If you are frequently noticing these bubbles in your urine along with symptoms like swelling, fatigue, or changes in the colour of your urine, do not hesitate to consult a doctor,” stressed Dr Baghel.

Your doctor may assess your condition to understand its root cause for a better and more effective solution. “Simple lifestyle adjustments can help prevent or manage this condition. This can include preventive measures like staying hydrated by drinking enough water, limiting salt intake, and following a healthy diet,” said Dr Baghel.
