After concluding his two-day visit to Paris, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the United Arab Emirates in a bid to boost bilateral trade and investments. He met the UAE’s president, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed al Nahyan, on Saturday, who hosted a banquet for PM Modi comprising a specially curated vegetarian meal. A note on the menu card read, “All meals are vegetarian and prepared with vegetable oils, and contain no dairy or egg products.”

According to a picture of the menu, PM Modi was first served a harees (wheat) and dates salad along with local organic vegetables. For the unversed, harees is a traditional dish in Arab cuisine, enjoyed throughout the Middle East.

This was followed by a scrumptious starter comprising grilled vegetables with masala sauce. As for the main course, PM Modi was served black lentils and local harees. It also had cauliflower and carrot tandoori as part of the menu.

The meal was concluded with a dessert, which was a “selection of seasonal local fruits”.

Following his visit, PM Modi posted a few pictures with President Al Nahyan and tweeted: “It is always gladdening to meet HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. His energy and vision for development are admirable. We discussed the full range of India-UAE ties including ways to boost cultural and economic ties.”

“Concluding a productive UAE visit. Our nations are working together on so many issues aimed at making our planet better. I thank HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for the warm hospitality,” he wrote in a subsequent tweet.

In Paris, French President Emmanuel Macron too had hosted a banquet dinner for PM Modi at Louvre Museum which was attended by over 200 guests. The menu was also specially curated with vegetarian options and the thread of the menu had the Indian tricolour.
