Watch: Virender Sehwag wishes Sachin Tendulkar on his 50th birthday with this yoga asana

Trust Virender Sehwag to always add a unique twist to anything and everything. And, in keeping with his charismatic spirit, the ‘Nawab of Najafgarh’ posted a video of himself doing Sirsasana (or headstand) to wish Sachin Tendulkar his 50th birthday today.

Sehwag, who has teamed up with Tendulkar as an opening batsman in numerous matches, wrote for his dearest ‘paaji’, “Maidaan par jo aapne kaha, uska ulta hi kiya, toh aaj aapke iconic 50th birthday par toh aapko Shirshasana karke wish karna hi tha. (I have always done the exact opposite of whatever you have told me on the field. So I had to do this headstand to wish you on your birthday). Wish you a very happy birthday.”

Tagging Tendulkar, Sehwag further wrote, “Paaji, aap jiyo hazaaron saal, saal ke din ho ek crore.”

With over 239.5 lakh views, the video is trending on Twitter. The post, as expected, quickly drew comments from users. One wrote, “best friendship”, while another said, “best opening duo”.

While we are still not over his quirky wish, here’s all you need to know about headstands and how they are beneficial when done with a correct form.

Headstand, which can be slightly intimidating for beginners, is an advanced yoga inversion posture. It is, in fact, referred to as the ‘king of asanas’.

How to do it?

*Start with Vajrasana (diamond pose) and grab opposite elbows.
*Interlock your fingers and reduce the space between your elbows.
*Once your shoulders are nice and protracted, raise your knees.
*Activate your core, raise one knee to your chest and then the other. Hold this position.
*Stay for a few seconds and build your strength.
*Extend one leg all the way to the top.
*When you feel more confident, extend the other leg.

Yoga trainer Ira Trivedi said, “While using a wall is good, one should gradually look to do Sirsasana without wall support. Correct alignment happens without wall support. So, everyone should try it if in their physical limits.”

According to the expert, the posture helps calm the mind, strengthens muscles especially of the core, and also enhances lung capacity.b
