Shilpa Shetty Kundra aces the hip mobility challenge (Photo: Shilpa Shetty Kundra/Instagram)Fitness aficionado and actor Shilpa Shetty Kundra recently aced the hip mobility challenge — touching her hips to the ground before standing back up without using her hands. “This is a challenge. Try and go down as much as you can. Touch your hips to the floor. And then try standing up. I did it. Can you?” she shared in an Instagram video.
In the caption, she wrote that the “hips don’t lie – especially when it comes to this mobility move“.
Mobility move benefits:
– Boosts thoracic, lumbar, and lower body mobility
– Opens tight hips, ankles, groin, and adductors
– Improves posture, flexibility, and control
– Acts as a joint health check: If you can do this, you have above-average mobile and healthy joints.
“Challenge thrown: can you get up without using your hands?” she asked.

Let’s understand what hip flexibility indicates and why is it crucial?
If you can open your hips with freedom, it’s a sign your joints, muscles, and nutrition are in harmony, said Kanikka Malhotra, consultant dietician and certified diabetes educator.
“Hips don’t lie. Neither does your lifestyle. How you feed yourself, how you move, and how you recover always finds its expression in the way your body bends, balances, and thrives,” she added.

Malhotra shared that our hips don’t just carry us; they tell a story of how well we move, fuel, and care for ourselves. “Mobility is more than a stretch. It’s a mirror of joint health, strength, and even the food we put on our plates. Tightness, discomfort, or fluid, graceful movement—these are reflections of what’s happening inside,” said Malhotra.
According to Malhotra, when we choose anti-inflammatory, nourishing foods, hydrate well, and stay consistent with mobility practices, we gift our body ease and longevity. “Pairing mindful eating with mindful movement is the real secret to aging pain-free, feeling light, and staying strong,” said Malhotra.
