Trust Kareena Kapoor Khan always to speak her mind. So, she did the same when asked about unrealistic beauty standards. Sharing her views, the Buckingham Murders actor stressed that she is now comfortable in her own skin. “I am just like now I can’t (be glamorous all the time). Please come and interview me but I am very happy in my jeans and shirt. I can’t sit in a pretty dress and look like that. I have done that also,” the 44-year-old said

Recall that Khan, too, once found herself embracing such beauty standards given her famous size zero figure, which was a highly publicised topic.

She affirmed that there are “unrealistic beauty standards now because of Instagram, and everybody desiring beach bikini body.” “People are wilting in the pressure of …oh my god, now I am vegan and gluten-free, and now sugar-free. We have forgotten the meaning of life. We are lost somewhere, running behind these sugar-free and gluten-free trips. People say that they want to be healthy, but it’s not that. It’s just a tag that I want to be healthy,” Khan told PinkVilla.

Agreeing with her, clinical psychologist Kamna Chhibber said perceptions are created by the narrative that gets built. “This happens through what is communicated by people around us and the media. It leads to the creation of misconceptions and unrealistic standards. Greater awareness and understanding of these aspects leads to change and the breaking of unrealistic standards,” noted Chhibber.

But how?

Busting these misconceptions is essential, stressed Chhibber.

“Recognise and accept different body shapes, sizes, and individual features. Don’t allow yourself to become fixed or rigid about how you or others need to look by raising questions about why it is important or where these ideas come from,” said Chhibber.

Stay informed about how you are getting influenced. Remind yourself that what matters is not how you look but who you are, shared Chhibber.
