An Indian couple’s lighthearted Instagram post comparing everyday life in India with life abroad has gone viral for all the right reasons — it’s funny, relatable, and strikes a chord with anyone who’s lived away from home.

The duo from Gurugram, who run the travel and lifestyle page @harsheenexplores, shared a list of 11 reasons why they find life in India more comfortable, social, and emotionally fulfilling than living overseas. Using sharp wit and observation, they highlighted how the conveniences and community spirit back home often outweigh the structured but isolating lifestyle abroad.

Their post begins with something every Indian relates to — food delivery. “In India: Swiggy delivers before you even get hungry. Abroad: Your parcel will arrive in 5-7 business days. Bro, I’ll starve by then.”

From there, they moved on to customer service, describing it as “personal and immediate” in India, while overseas it often feels slow and impersonal, handled mostly over email.

They also celebrated the joy (and affordability) of Indian street food: “In India: 250 pani puri = happiness unlocked. Abroad: £8 sandwich = depression with lettuce.”

Public transport, festive spirit, and friendships abroad also made their way into the list. “India: Random chai stall, 5 new friends. Abroad: People book friendship 3 weeks in advance.” Another line that resonated widely was about festivals: “India: Streets glowing, neighbours dancing, sweets everywhere. Abroad: You light one diya and your flatmate asks if it’s a fire drill.”

They didn’t forget the everyday comforts of life in India either. “India: Rs 100 = haircut, chai, samosa, and a friend. Abroad: £10 = one coffee and existential crisis.” And of course, the universal truth about chores: “India: ‘Didi, please clean the house.’ Abroad: You are the didi now.”

Even healthcare and festive leave came under their lens. “India: ₹500 and a doctor still calls you beta. Abroad: A week later appointment just to know two paracetamols and rest.” And the Diwali line summed it up perfectly: “Diwali = week off, family, sweets. Abroad: ‘Happy Diwali! Anyway, see you at work tomorrow.’”

In their closing note, the couple wrote that despite its chaos, India’s energy and emotion make it uniquely special. “It’s called chaotic perfection. It’s noise, it’s emotion, it’s warmth — and that’s India for you. We leave to chase dreams, but somewhere between silent streets and slow Wi-Fi, we realise… there’s no place like home.”

The post quickly gained traction online, drawing a mix of reactions. One user commented, “You can come back. You are more than welcome here.” Another said, “Can’t agree more.” Some, however, found the post overly sentimental, with one writing, “Can’t believe our people get misled over such posts so easily.”
